Models feature a brushed and polished stainless steel case, black tropical dial with luminous hour markers, and sapphire crystal. The Seamaster has built a reputation for its clean and straightforward aesthetic. It would also serve as the ideal watch for everyday wear. It wouldn’t just appeal to those who appreciated the functionality of a diver’s tool. However, OMEGA also wanted the Seamaster to be more versatile than the average dive watch. These include triangular hour markers, a Naiad sign on the crown, and an iconic seahorse engraving on the caseback. The original Seamaster and other vintage-inspired versions like the Seamaster 300 60th Anniversary Limited Edition also have other distinct features. Second, the specific design of the bidirectional rotating black aluminum bezel helps divers keep track of elapsed time. This feature expels gases that become trapped inside the watch. First, the helium release valve helps divers reaching great depths for prolonged periods of time. Two of the most notable features allow the Seamaster to be a true diver’s tool. Its design drew inspiration from other dive watches, like the Marine, OMEGA’s first water-resistant timepiece. Its finishes include a rhodium-plated rotor and bridges, Geneva waves in arabesque, and blackened screws, barrels, and balance wheel. The automatic movement also features a 55-hour power reserve, a frequency of 25,200 vph, and a magnetic resistance to 15,000 gauss. Behind this pane we see the Omega Co-Axial Master Chronometer Caliber 8806, which as its name indicates features a co-axial escapement and is chronometer-certified. The Seamaster Diver 300 Black Black has a sapphire exhibition caseback, secured via Omega’s proprietary “NAIAD LOCK” system that helps provide the watch with its namesake 300-meter dive rating. All the hands, like the numerals, are manufactured from PVD. Telling the time at the center of the surface are two partially skeletonized and lume-filled hands, while a lollipop seconds counter is put to use as a complement. The matte black look features an outer curved minute ring giving way to an inner textured wave pattern, with applied PVD numerals, filled with more anthracite Super-LuminNova, for each hour. Underneath the domed, antireflective sapphire crystal, we find the watch’s namesake double-black, monochromatic Seamaster dial, which is, uncommonly, also produced in black ceramic. The case is embellished with contrasting polished and brushed finishing, and is secured to the wrist via a black rubber strap fastened with a black ceramic buckle.
Over the case is a unidirectional rotating ceramic bezel, which like the rest of the watch is also black this element is laser ablated with a polished diving scale to present some texture and enhanced readability, with the 12 o’clock dot filled with anthracite-colored Super-LuminNova. The watch features a 43.5-mm by 14.47-mm black ceramic case in the familiar Seamaster Diver 300 silhouette, complete with slightly twisted lugs, a conical helium escape valve at the 10 o’clock position, and a thick signed screw-down crown flanked by two curved guards at the 3 o’clock position. It comes on the heels of a number of other novel takes on the base Seamaster Diver 300 design, including the 007 Edition, which our Senior Editor Mark Bernardo went hands-on with recently, and a 2022 Winter Olympics edition launched by the brand at the start of this year.
